I think I listened to a lot more today than usual, since I was attempting to do homework and spent quite a bit of time practicing guitar as well. I actually spent more time on my guitar today than on Maple...  Firstly, I'll say that disco is one of my guilty pleasures... Also, gotta get my daily dose of Michael Schenker (the solo in this one is out of this world, and it's crazy how he could consistently drop leads like this when he was only 21...) Eh, what the hell, I doubt anyone else is listening, but here are some other sublime tracks off of the No Heavy Petting album And also this one. It never gets old. One of Schenker's greatest strength's is his superb melodic sense which I have yet to hear paralleled in any guitarist. Even to the average listener, it should be clear that in a song like "Into the Arena," the melodies (especially towards the end) are exquisite and unique, while the music theorist might be more than surprised to hear him modulating between a variety of modes--Dorian, Phrygian, Mixolydian, and Aeolian in this case--to create rich, distinctive melodic flavors. And then the most recent thing to pass through my ears was Wild Frontier. Solid album with some great Celtic-inspired songwriting and melodies. |
